Walkers Run the Homeboy 5K

On September 21, my dad and I will be running the Homeboy Industries 5K in support of the critical work the organization, and its founder, Father Greg, do for the community.

Any donation, no matter the size, will allow Homeboy to expand its reach, and help more people find employment, healing, connection, and hope.

If you don't know: for three decades Homeboy has been helping formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women in LA County by giving them the tools and support to allow them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of the community—instead of cycling in and out of lockup.

The message of Homeboy is one of "radical kinship," as Fr. Greg often says. "Homeboy Industries has chosen to stand with the 'demonized' so that the demonizing will stop; it stands with the 'disposable' so that the day will come when we stop throwing people away."

Here's a sampling of the work going on at Homeboy:
Case Management
Tattoo Removal
Workforce Development / Employment Services
Mental Health Services – individual therapy, substance abuse counseling, and group classes
Legal Services
Education – including academic, life skills, wellness and enrichment classes, and a partnership with LearningWorks Charter High School
Solar Panel Training and Certification

All of Homeboy’s services, offered free of charge, are designed to equip clients to successfully turn their lives around. Participants in the 18-month program are offered case management and comprehensive wrap-around services while at Homeboy.
